Tanzania safari designed for families with children — private vehicle, flexible pacing, and parks selected for high sighting frequency and manageable game drive lengths.

We design family safari itineraries differently from adult safaris: shorter game drive blocks with more breaks, cultural visits timed to morning energy levels, and accommodation chosen for family-appropriate layout — family rooms, cottages, or adjoining tents.

Minimum age for wildlife game drives is 5 years old. Most lodges and camps are appropriate from that age. Kilimanjaro is not recommended for children under 12.

Best Time to Visit

Tanzania's dry seasons — late June to October and January to February — provide the best overall conditions. Vegetation is thinner, animals concentrate around water, and the Great Wildebeest Migration river crossings peak July to September. The wet seasons bring lower prices and fewer visitors but more challenging roads.

Health Requirements

Yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from an endemic country and recommended regardless. Malaria prophylaxis is advisable for all mainland Tanzania. Consult a travel health clinic at least four to six weeks before departure.

What to Bring

Neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, tan) is standard on safari. Bright colours attract insects. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent with DEET, and binoculars (8x magnification minimum). A headlamp is useful for early morning departures.

5 years is our minimum for standard game drives. Children this age can handle 2-3 hour game drives with a break. By 8-10 years, most children can fully appreciate the wildlife and sustain longer drives. The minimum age for Kilimanjaro is 10 years (though we recommend 12 for most routes).

Game drives are conducted from the vehicle — the parks have strict rules requiring travelers to remain in vehicles at all times. There is no meaningful safety risk specific to children during game drives. Bush walks (available on some private concessions) are not recommended for children under 12.

Yes — we can incorporate a visit to a Maasai boma (village) near Tarangire or Ngorongoro. These visits are genuine community tourism partnerships, not staged shows, and children tend to engage well with the experience. We arrange these through established community programs.
