Three nights of private Serengeti game drives plus a dawn hot air balloon flight — one hour above the plains, champagne bush breakfast included.

This package combines two fundamentally different perspectives on the Serengeti: the ground-level intimacy of a private vehicle game drive, and the aerial silence of a balloon at first light. The two experiences are complementary — not interchangeable. Most travelers who do both say the balloon changes how they see every game drive that follows.

The balloon flight is operated by Serengeti Balloon Safaris — the licensed operator for flights inside the national park. We arrange all logistics: transfer to the launch site before dawn, the flight, the champagne bush breakfast, and return to camp. The balloon adds approximately $600 per person to the base safari cost; both are included in the package price above.

Four days built around the balloon experience — arriving in the Serengeti the afternoon before your flight, with game drives on either side.

Day1

Moshi / Arusha → Serengeti National Park

Early morning departure from Moshi or Arusha. Drive through the Ngorongoro Highlands — stop for views over the Crater before descending to the Serengeti plains. Enter via the Naabi Hill Gate. Afternoon game drive in the central Seronera Valley — one of the most reliable predator areas in the park. Early dinner at camp: your 4:30am balloon pickup starts before sunrise tomorrow.

Day2

Dawn Balloon Flight & Champagne Bush Breakfast

4:30am transfer to the launch site. Watch the balloon inflate in the dark as the Serengeti horizon begins to lighten. Launch at first light. Approximately 60 minutes above the acacia woodland, open grassland, and riverine forest — animals visible below, the horizon stretching in every direction. No engine noise: just wind and the sound of the burner. After landing, your pilot leads the traditional champagne bush breakfast in the field — certificate of flight included. Return to camp by mid-morning. Full afternoon game drive.

Full Day Game Drives — Serengeti

A full day of private game drives. Morning drive in the golden hour (6am–10am) — the most productive window for predator activity. Packed lunch at a park viewpoint. Afternoon drive from 3:30pm to sunset, positioned based on sightings reported by the guide-driver network. Camp zone depends on season: central Seronera for year-round lion and leopard; northern Kogatende July–September for Migration river crossings.

Final Dawn Drive → Arusha / Moshi Departure

Weather Cancellations

Balloon flights are weather-dependent. In the event of unsafe weather conditions, flights are rescheduled or refunded. High winds and heavy rain are the main cancellation reasons. Most flights proceed — the Serengeti's climate is generally stable at dawn.

Photography

Bring your camera — aerial Serengeti shots are exceptional. Wide-angle and standard zoom lenses work best from the basket. All passengers can photograph freely throughout the flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Serengeti Balloon Safaris has operated in the Serengeti since 1986 with an excellent safety record. Pilots are internationally licensed and the aircraft are maintained to strict standards. Brief weather delays and rescheduling happen; serious safety incidents are rare.

Minimum age is 7 years. Children between 7 and 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The basket sides are approximately 1.2m — children should be able to see over the edge comfortably.

The balloon operates year-round. July-October during the Migration offers the most dramatic wildlife scenes from altitude — thousands of wildebeest visible from above. January-February (calving season) is also spectacular. Other months still offer excellent game viewing from the air.
